It’s that time of year! The holidays are wonderful for so many reasons but shopping for everyone is one of the most fun.
My husband likes to get a head start and is already looking around for ideas. We were talking about gifts for our boys when he suddenly asked for my shoe size, for the third time. I laughed thinking of the nice pair of shoes I’d be enjoying soon while I said, “I should give you a sheet with all my sizes written on it for you to keep.” He told me that would actually be very helpful when I said, “Yeah, Santa’s Cheat Sheet!”
He was so excited about it that I whipped it up over the weekend for him to use right away, complete with cute illustrations.
Now it’s available in the shop as a digital download so you can plan all your secret holiday shopping without asking really obvious questions! :)
HAPPY HOLIDAY SHOPPING!
Getting Liam’s Baby Announcement out was always going to be a challenge now that I had two boys to care for. However, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a challenge it was actually going to be. There is barely a time when I’m not tending to one of my boys and sometimes both at the same time! While making the day interesting to say the least, it leaves me no time at all to work on any side projects. Needless to say, it took me quite a while to design, print, put it together and out mail these out. I’m so glad they’re finally out!
Designing is always my favorite part in any project. It’s exciting to start something new, full of possibilities. I’m not sure why, I’ve associated Liam with the color yellow since he was born. I’m not sure why but I knew his announcement had to incorporate this color because of that fact. I’ve also associated him with lions because my husband picked out a little lion lovie for him since before he was born. So I started with yellow and lions. I had also been printing with a very lovely mint I had been enjoying so much that I wanted to incorporate it into his announcement and to make it just a little more masculine, he is a boy after all, I snuck in navy, which my husband loves. So I had a pretty nice palette.
This is what my working file looked in the beginning. I just put down my ideas and start to see what works. I was going to include a photo on the announcement but I decided to do the photos separately. I like the idea of family actually being able to keep the photos and not sticking them right on the announcement. Just a personal preference.
So this is how my final file turned out. It helps me visualize everything before I print it…
I decided on a polka dot liner and had planned on making labels to address the envelopes but after having the printed announcements sitting on my desk for weeks on end, I opted to use a stamp to address them. I figured it was better to get them out before Liam was 17, don’t you agree?
So here are some photos of the the final announcement.
For the photos, I printed them up at 3 x 4 and put them in a wax pouch sealed with polka dot washi tape. I also printed up photos of both of the boys and one of them together since the announcement was coming from Jack. You can never have too many photos of cute, little boys!
Here’s a close up of the announcement itself. I printed it in 220lb Pearl Lettra. It’s a thick paper that not only takes a wonderful impression but feels great when you hold it.
I hope you enjoyed taking a look at a bit of the process behind Liam’s announcement. It was definitely a labor of love. :)
Happy Monday everyone!
It’s a little dark and gloomy over here and I’ve had to wake up every hour with a colicky baby but I’m feeling excited about my TO DO list. I’m hoping to get some stuff done today even though I feel like a zombie. We’ll see how much of it I get to with these two boys.
One of the new designs for the BIG ONES line.
I did want to show you a new line I’ve slowly been putting together. I’ve designed quite a few cards for this line but because each card is three colors, they take some time to print up. I do have quite a few of these finished now. You may remember them from this post. I was testing them out and they worked out so well that I jumped into the whole line. I called it BIG ONES, because that was the idea behind it, a card for the BIG moments in our lives. You can see the collection here, or what I have been able to print so far.
I’m planning on having more of these coming every chance I get. I hope to have more new designs to show you soon. And now, I have to go, there’s a teeny baby making quite a racket in the next room. :)
I’m not sure why today, of all days, I decided I want to blog. My eyes are bloodshot, I’m still in my pajamas and I’m trying to help a scared toddler to do “poopie in the potty” while my newborn sleeps in my bed after having been there since 4 am. It’s been a LONG morning.
Even though I sound like a mess, I’m proud to say I haven’t been handling this new juggling act so horribly. I’ve managed to get work done and to get dinner on the table, although not both on the same day. Yes, my husband says it looks like a zoo in here as picking toys around the house has moved lower in my priority list. Getting dressed and eating something in between all the chaos are a little more important these days.
I am excited to say that amidst all this madness, I was able to put a little set together that I designed recently. I worked on these after feeding Liam and while he slept on my lap. It seems everything I do these days happens that way. :)
Oddly enough, I seem more prolific recently. I think having so much to do just keeps me churning and so the more I have to do, the more I design as well.
Well, I think it’s time to return to my frenzy but I’d like to leave you with a photo I took recently in one of these crazy moments that quickly became mine and my husband’s favorite. Nothing special, it just captures me and my boys!
I’ve been contemplating a new blog post for a while now as I fell off the radar about two months ago. I came across a draft I had for a post before the baby was born. It was nice to read and see how I was feeling right before the baby came. Things have changed a lot since then! Juggling the two boys, work and the home has been challenging even with help. My mother and sister have gone back home though and I now have to do this juggling act all by myself.
I’ve been nervous about tackling this all by myself for some time now, specially because work seemed to be picking up a bit but it hasn’t been too terrible. The only thing that’s killing me is the lack of sleep. I’m running on interrupted sleep and not much of it. To make things a little worse, we all got a cold that we ended up passing on to the baby and that’s been difficult.
Still, I’m excited to get back to work or continue to work as I don’t think I ever really did stop. There’s so much to show you but I’ll start with a few images I’m sure you’ll enjoy.
So that’s all for now. Going to try and see if I can manage getting dinner on the table today. I have to start practicing better time management as I can’t get to everything when I want to. It’s interesting to see the shift one little creature creates on a whole household. It’s a challenge but I’ve never shied away from one, as a matter of fact, I’m thinking of throwing in learning to sew into the mix. I know it’s insane but I’ve really got an itch to try it out. I’ll make sure to post about that when I try it out. I have to plan it properly as I want to design some fabric first! :) Before all that however, I’ll post about working on Liam’s birth announcements, I’m having fun with those already!
Have a wonderful week!
I had a pretty exhausting day yesterday. My 3 year old doesn’t quite understand that I’m 31 weeks pregnant and that I’m constantly tired. So when he says, “Mommy can I play in the backyard, please, please, please… play Mommy catch you?”, I feel horrible! Unfortunately, it was raining and it looks like a rainy day today too. So I ended up in a tent and then on the floor in his room where I ended up falling asleep as I was held captive.
Still, I’m a night owl and once the craziness of the day is done and I have a nice warm shower, I sometimes find some energy to print so I jumped in here to show you a couple of the things I worked on last night, which I’m quite excited about.
If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen these, but for those who don’t, I wanted to share. I don’t know why these are really striking my fancy, but ever since I designed them I’ve been dying to print them and I have to say, they turned out just perfect!
Well, that’s all for now, going to see if I can start working on the third design of this series and then perhaps design some more. They’re quite fun. What type of sentiments do you find you’re always looking for in a card? I’m open to more ideas as I work on these. Let’s do something fun, leave ideas in the comments section here or on my facebook page and if your sentiment is picked, I’ll send you the card! :)
Post as many ideas as you want, US entries only. I’ll take the first person who posted any idea that is repeated.
Well hello everyone! Or any of you that are still out there… :)
I’m not sure if this is the longest I’ve been away but it definitely feels like it because I’ve had so many things I’d like to show and tell you about. However, I’ve had some personal problems that really cast a shadow on how I’ve been feeling and so the only thing I want to do is work. It keeps my mind off of things in a way that writing, even a blog post can’t.
Still, I’m deciding to push past all those sad feelings and be happy. There are many things to be excited about, especially this little baby that is on the way who is quite a little ball of joy already. There isn’t a minute in the day when I don’t feel him and I’m really starting to wonder if we’ll have any rest once he arrives. :)
On other happy news, I had the happy honor of hosting my Mother-In-Law’s 60th Birthday party at my home this past weekend and it was fantastic. My husband’s sisters and I pulled together and it was really a lovely little get together. We wanted it to be a very cozy gathering so there were only 10 people and it made for a wonderful party.
One of my husband’s sisters and her husband are a baker and chef, so needless to say, the food was unbelievable! I was in charge of decor and we decided on a sort of tea party idea that ended up turning into a colorful mad hatter type tea party in the end.
Of course, I had to involve some letterpress into the equation. I decided to make my Mother-In-Law a print to commemorate her 60th. I was quite happy with the way it turned out. Since this was a surprise party and it was so small, we decided invitations wouldn’t be necessary, but with Christine’s wonderful food, I thought a menu would be a lovely treat to adorn the table. So I pressed it and decorated with colorful doilies and some baker’s twine. It added a nice pop to the table settings.
Here is the complete set I worked on for this party, including a custom coaster. Nothing fancy, just a colorful, sweet set of stationery to celebrate a wonderful woman.
This was a much needed distraction and has made me want to start sharing again, so I’m planning on a special post about my son’s third birthday party, which was also a couple of weeks ago and I had lots of fun working on as well. Hope to have that up soon too.
Thanks again for sticking around and I hope that I’m able to show you more as my mood has improved and the situation settles itself. Till next time!
I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last post… wait, I can. It’s been a crazy month. I was able to visit my family in Florida and meet up with my grandparents who came up from Costa Rica. I spent a wonderful week there and also a week with my beautiful husband and sons (one still baking)!
It was nice to take some time off and just relax with my family. Sometimes you get caught up in the day to day and you forget. As I get further along in my pregnancy, (I will be 7 months on Thursday!) I find I want, not to mention need to spend more time with my feet up and with my boys around me. It’s also given me a lot of time to think about Honizukle Press and where I’d like things to go now that the new baby is right around the corner. Oddly enough, I’m so psyched about growing and not just my pregnant belly. :) This year has been great for HP and I’m happy with the way things are moving.
I’ve been working a lot, finishing up wedding suites that I can’t wait to photograph and show you and I just finished printing 3 new Mother’s Day designs I’m super excited about. So take a look at these and let me know what you think…
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Hello Everyone! I’ve been busy promoting Coddington Lane and keeping up with Honizukle Press as well hence the lack of posts here as I try to keep up.
Just wanted to jump in and point you to Paper Crave, where the lovely Kristen featured Coddington Lane!
If you haven’t already liked us on Facebook, you can do so here to stay up to date with all the cool stuff that is sure to come.
It’s finally here! I’ve been waiting to tell you about Coddington Lane for a while now.
I posted here about how I had two wonderful sessions with the amazing Jess Lively from With Intention. The idea for Coddington Lane was born from these chats and I ran with it! I couldn’t believe how excited Jess was to see this plan come into action and that just fueled the fire, so here we are!
I designed a letterpress set for men that has been VERY popular not only among women purchasing for their men (or even themselves) but with men in particular. So I took a couple more sets I already had in mind for men and separated them into a shop. Now it’s one special shop tailored for men. This was a particularly fitting endeavor for me as my husband is my target audience. He’s quite the distinguished gentleman and provided invaluable insight into stationery from a male perspective. I have run EVERYTHING by him and he has endorsed it all. I used all sorts of cool pencils from his carefully curated collection to style the photos and he even came up with the tag line : Letterpress for the Discerning Gentleman, which I thought was BRILLIANT!
Today is the very first day for Coddington Lane and I hope it’s a great one! I’m excited to see how it’ll grow. Of course, like any other launch, this one comes complete with a coupon code, so use NEWLINE34 for 10% off your first order and don’t forget to like our new Facebook Page too!
